Last night one of my friends who works in the ministry of sports got us some tickets to go see a kick boxing tournament, and seeing I had never actually gone to one of these things in person I jumped at the chance. So I invited my girlfriend and strange enough she was actually more excited than I was, her first thoughts were "great I can go see ways that I can beat them up" She was kidding.... but not really.
So we went, and the very first match that we saw was great, There was this huge guy from Guatemala fighting against a smaller guy and I just loved the way he would slowly but constantly just move toward the smaller guy cornering him then beating the shit out of him. But the really interesting part came when the smaller guy was going for a kick to I guess the inside of the thigh but he just nicked him in the groin, and sure enough the guy gave a picture perfect groin reaction bending over, grabbing on to his genitalia with one hand up in the air signaling for the ref to halt the fight.
And when I saw this I immediately remembered my last post here about whether or not you could shut down the human body using just your hands and feet in the time it takes for him to shoot you, because I spoke of this exact example, I know a lot of people will say well that only happens sometimes and you cant count on it, but I'll get to that later. The point is though that for all his size, speed, training, will to win, aggression, positive thinking etc, it only took a nick, not even a full on body weight driven volley to his groin and his body betrayed him, now if this was on the street and right after that kick to the groin the guy stepped in and dropped him on his skull, then stomped his nose in, the fight would be over in a matter of under 5 seconds. Oh just in passing the big guy won the fight at the end, but again only because he was allowed the opportunity to recover. oh and then my GF was like” this is great we actually get to see the real reaction for the stuff we practice" god I love her, my warrior princess.
So on to the next fight, and then I realized a striking similarity with what happened in the first fight and this one, only this time the guy got hit there a total of 3 agonizing times and then eventually lost the match, but the reaction was the same, instant, predictable and unambiguous and then this happened again for another 2 matches, what can I say they had horrible aim, or did they.
This is why anytime someone tells me that they've been hit plenty times in the balls and they were able to continue like nothing happened I only smile at them and shake my head

Re: MY FIRST KICK BOXING MATCH
Thu, May 22, 2008 - 1:24 AMGroin attacks are always effective. Especially if they are fast and focused. I been hit in the balls a few times accidentally. It can really put a damper on your fighting game.
One day I was training with my new friend who is a Brazillian Jujutsu expert. He was showing our other friends all sorts of moves using me as his practice dummy. He would put me into some jacked up submision holds and would hold them and add pressure even though I would tap. We weren't even actually sparring yet. He had me in the Kimura armbar and was taking my arm out of its socket while I was tapping. I didnt want to start yelling like a bitch or anything. So I subtly grabbed his groin cup with my free hand, pulled it back and away from his crotch and let the elastic snap the cup back in place kinda crooked. He let go of me really fast. I did it fast, too. No one knows what happen but him. One guy thought that maybe he was having an hernia. I appologised. But it was hard for me not to laugh. -

Re: MY FIRST KICK BOXING MATCH
Thu, May 22, 2008 - 8:58 PMThats the problem with many ring oriented matches. On one hand, the competition makes you work harder to transcend your limitation, but on the other there is not nearly as much emphasis on fighting dirty or on closing the gap between submission and injury.
It seems like these kickboxers however were well aware of groin shots in the ring.
